VIETNAM ADVENTURE

VIETNAM OUTDOORS

Prepare for a large number of Vietnam Adventure (or outdoor) activities. These vary from the strenuous (i.e. bicycling) to the relaxing (competition sun tanning). (By the way, most Vietnamese women go out of their way to avoid getting a tan. Parasols are quite common.) Sports are limited primarily by climate. There’s no skiing or snowmobiling in Vietnam. Some fun things are less developed such as para gliding, and white water rafting / kayaking.

There are obvious opportunities for entrepreneurial outdoor types here. I’m not an expert in doing business in Vietnam. Joint ventures are undertaken in both small and large capital investments. Get expert business advice before undertaking any ventures.

Vietnam’s Beaches – Check out my Vietnam Beaches Page.

Bicycling Vietnam - Check my Bicycling Vietnam page.

SCUBA - Scuba diving is the big attraction in Nha Trang, as is snorkeling, if you’re not a qualified diver. US$40.00 a day is the going price for a day of scuba diving, unless you would like to relax on a ‘live-aboard’ dive trip. The season is between April and August – hot out of the water. During the cooler times of the year the winter currents stir up the waters and make visibility difficult. Be sure to check the PADI Certification of any dive centers in Vietnam . Take time for an underwater Vietnam adventure.

SPECIAL MOTORBIKE TOURS - I have commented on Motorbikes as a mode of transportation. If you're an accomplished motorcycle rider looking for bragging rights back home consider a Vietnam Adventure by motorbike. Even if you're not a skilled rider, think about learning to ride. Safety is the paramount consideration, so if you're concerned, go with your heart. If you want to learn ride most states have motorcycle training centers or contact a motorcycle dealer close by and they'll steer you in the right direction. If neither of the above appeals to you consider taking a tour as a passenger. Check out the EASY RIDERS in Dalat. This is a loosely bound guild of guides that offer motorbike tours and guide services in Dalat. You can hire them for day trips around the area or for an extended tour that takes you through the Central Highlands to Qui Nhon or Hoian. This tour will take about 5 days and cost about $250.00. Awesome tour!! Climb aboard, enjoy the scenery, they do the driving. Ask for Easy Riders “Ti Ti” (pronounced Tee Tee) or “Wingman”.

Kayaks are available at some beaches and especially at Halong Bay where many tourists enjoy exploring the bay’s rocky islands and sea caves.
